Vauxhall-based property company CLS Holdings has applied for planning permission for its ambitious ‘Vauxhall Square’ redevelopment plan at Vauxhall Cross. CLS Chief Executive Officer Richard Tice stresses that the project does not depend upon the Northern Line extension from Kennington to Nine Elms being built.
‘Vauxhall Square’, would occupy the whole of the CLS-owned block bounded to the north by Parry Street, to the west by Wandsworth Road (with the exception of a terrace of listed houses), and by Bondway to the east, with Miles Street to the south. The company’s offices will continue to be there.
CLS has consulted extensively locally and made some changes to the £400 million development, which now envisages a new ‘public space’, a square bordered by eight blocks of 9,11, 21, 26, storeys and up, including one a 48- and a 50-storey apartment buildings (604 dwellings (15% ‘affordable’).
There’d also be offices, a 438-bedroom hotel, multi-screen cinema, children’s ‘play area’ and a 40- bedroom replacement for the existing homeless hostel.
The developer says the site’s population of breeding birds and bats has been surveyed (if not consulted), and that demolition/construction would take place outside the breeding season.
Lambeth’s now calling for comments from community groups on CLS’s Vauxhall Square, which officially should be by 7 February but there’s some leeway. The main thing is, for or against, to have your say.
