That Tube Line: planning permission denial

Don’t believe the report in the Evening Standard Homes & Property section (2 November), which says that the ‘planning permission has been given for an extension of the Northern Line’. It hasn’t. The Vauxhall Society called the NLE developer, Treasury Holdings, to check. ‘I have no idea where the journalist got his story from. He certainly never spoke to me,’ said Tony Whitehead, TH’s Northern Line Extension Project Director. The NLE website says a formal planning application ‘could be’...

Claylands Green’s dusty answer to NLE’s bad vibrations

1 June 2011

Claylands Green Area NLE Action is one of the new community groups stung into action by the excessive noise, dust and mess involved in developers’ proposals to tunnel beneath homes in Kennington and Vauxhall for the controversial Northern Line Extension to Wandsworth. Northern Line Extension: talking points

25 May 2011

David Boardman of the Kennington Association Planning Forum is circulating some talking points you might care to raise at the ‘consultation’ meetings that are now coming thick and fast on the Northern Line tube extension and other riverside development at Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea. David suggests: developing VNEB at the highest density, 16,000 dwelling option in the draft Framework document is undesirable in itself – at more realistic densities, we wouldn’t need an expensive NLE the current NLE...

Northern Line Extension: ‘being sneaked through while everyone is looking at the Olympics’?

24 May 2011

‘It feels as though it’s being sneaked through without proper scrutiny while everyone’s looking at the Olympics’, an insider tells The Vauxhall Society about the proposed Tube line from Kennington to Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station. The Tube proposal ‘has nothing whatsoever to do with any rational plan for extending the Underground’, and has been devised ‘merely to suit the ambitions and convenience of those who stand to make money out of Nine Elms, notably Treasury Holdings, the...

IMPACT, the residents’ association for SW8′s Meadow Road, Palfrey Place, Ashmole Street, Claylands Road and Place and Trigon Road, is urging people to attend two special, but hitherto little-publicised, meetings on 23 and 25 May for those whose homes are in the path of tunnelling and ventilation shaft construction for the proposed Northern Line extension from Kennington to Nine Elms and Battersea. Most people, IMPACT says, are unaware that the developers, Treasury Holdings, are holding two special meetings specifically...

Northern Line Extension: an offer you CAN refuse

17 May 2011

The Commercial developers that want you to pay for the Kennington-Nine Elms-Battersea Tube Line to jack up the price of their skyscraper riverside flats are misleading Vauxhall people into the assumption that it is no longer possible to object to the scheme in the current consultation. But you can still object to some or all of the scheme or the way it’s being sold. Locals are puzzled by the current Treasury Holdings ‘consultation’ leaflet and questionnaire (see below –...

Tube Extension, Green Space Contraction

10 May 2011

It’s not enough that ‘they’ want to dig a questionably-useful Northern Line Tube Extension under your house at your expense to serve luxury tower blocks and commercial development in Nine Elms. Now, according to a dubious ‘consultation’ document ‘they’ also want to plonk Tube ventilation shafts on three of your few remaining green spaces – at Claylands Road, Kennington Green, and Kennington Park. Green space grabThe green space grab emerges from a ‘consultation’ document you are urged to fill...

Northern Line Tube Extension: Residents undermined?

6 May 2011

They’re already tunnelling in Vauxhall to construct the Thames Tideway major sewer, and now they’d like to tunnel even more to build a Northern Line Tube extension from Kennington to Nine Elms and Battersea. The purpose of the new Tube – which you will pay for – is to ferry people to and from the City and luxury flats in Battersea. It may not be long now before ‘they’ start digging a new Tube line under your house in...
